20% Time #2

It has been difficult to work on my project. I have been doing research, but the time for research is almost over. I have looked into everything I need to about the bees, honey, and flowers. I need to get to my grandma's house to finish the rest of the project, but unfortunately I cannot do that due to the virus. I do have some questions I wish to ask her when she gets back to my phone calls such as where she gets her bees from.

E-Commerce Article #3

Article: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/09/health/toilet-paper-shortages-novel-coronavirus-trnd/index.html

In this article, there is talk about the toilet paper shortage because of  COVID-19. The stores are all almost completely cleared out of toilet paper and other paper products (i.e paper towels). This article says it is based on mass hysteria, which I agree with to an extent. There are actions in Australia to prevent this, but none in the United States. In Australia, they are printing emergency toilet paper in the back of newspapers, just in case people happen to run out and there is none left in the stores. This is also helpful in case the country goes into quarantine. For the United States, economists suggested trying to refrain from mass-buying toilet paper. They argue that by doing so, the companies will feel more inclined to raise the prices on their next load delivery. This relates to E-Commerce because even the online store websites are entirely out of toilet paper.

20% Time #1

This past week I have worked at the pace of my calendar, even while being away from school. My calendar has me researching types of bees, so that I can decide which I'm most interested in researching further. I have decided to research the Western Honey Bee. This honey bee is a eusocial flying insect within the genus Apis of the bee clade, all native to Eurasia but spread to four other continents by human beings. It may be a tiny creature, but it does very big things for our ecosystem. A question I have come across is about how these bees communicate and understand the queen bee's directions. When time allows, that will be something I will be looking into. I have bumped into a few challenges so far, all unrelated to the project, but they have impacted my available research time greatly. My goal for next week is to completely focus on the Honey Bee, and officially confirm it as my subject in this project.

E-Commerce Article #2

Article: https://www.shopify.ca/blog/mfmgcosmetics-products

The media I chose to read was an interview. This interview follows a woman named Tomi Gbeleyi who developed a makeup brand called MFMG Cosmetics directed to women of color. This was really interesting because she talked about how originally she wasn't planning on developing her own brand. She began by using Instagram and a blog, although she believes majority of her success came from Instagram. With her account, she was able to re-post makeup artists and brands that support women of color and gained thousands of followers. She also advocated for different campaigns such as the I Love My Lips The Way They Are campaign. As time went on and she gained more fame, she began to work from home and work with a chemist to make makeup products for darker-skinned individuals. I chose this article because I am a big fan of many makeup artists, plenty of which are of color. It was exciting to see someone taking that step to help make a more universal makeup brand.

E-Commerce Article #1

Link: https://www.shopify.ca/blog/homework-teen-entrepreneur-locker-board

The article that caught my attention was " Ollies and Ocean Life: Inside the Mind of a 14-Year-Old Founder" by Dayna Winter. This article followed a fourteen year-old boy named Carson. Carson had an idea of fitting his skateboard in his school locker, an idea many of this fellow classmates appreciated. He began to make skateboard decks and sell them to classmates who also experienced the issue of having nowhere to put their skateboards after riding them to school. Carson's business blossomed within his school and he eventually came into contact with the executive producer of Shark Tank. He was able to pitch his idea to them at such a young age. I chose this article because I plan to go to college for a business degree and to become an entrepreneur. This article relates to the dream that I have for myself, only he succeeded in completing it long before I will.
